about the artist

My narrative paintings and sculptures capture powerful universal feelings created by the dichotomies of life. The intensity of experience is felt through depth of color, form and content. My expressive pieces are passionate and inspiring, much like life.

From paintings on canvas, to mixed media and paper, to recycled glass and plexiglass, the pieces step both inside and outside the box.  They often evoke a time and place in my life, yet others have told me the scenes bring back their own experiences and memories. My fingerprints on my work are distinctive across the many mediums I use to express myself and hopefully reach others. The personal becomes universal.

The Chasm Series is both political, personal and universally emotional. It speaks to separation, division and isolation. It speaks to the hope of connection.

Windows are a metaphor for hope. They offer the endless possibilities of the world, yet the security of home. The painting series depict inside security and the world beyond, overlooking scenes/ landscapes.

My Fire series is an exploration, explosion and implosion of life and our shared experience of it. It is a dance of color and light, and the darkness we need to appreciate the light.

My latest series of sculptures is based on themes found in some of my other work, as well as in the history of art. Isolation, emergence, connection, are stories in all of our lives.

The cloak, in much of my 2 and 3 dimensional work, symbolizes protection, warmth, security, shelter, cover, a barrier from the world, a place to hide, mystery. The cloth covers and reveals. It is timeless.

Boxes are representative of shelter, security. They can keep others out, or can open to another world.

The experimental multi-dimensional paintings on glass, plexiglass and other surfaces explore imagery, content and new media. Recent works are technically challenging, experimental, planned and spontaneous.

Born and raised in New York City, I am Californian by choice. I attended art school and the school of life, both equally valuable.

My work has been exhibited in juried shows, fine art galleries, private collections and museums.
